
Lev Landau was Soviet physicist and a child prodigy in mathematics who matriculated at the age of 14. He received the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physics for his development of a mathematical theory of superfluidity. Among his key researches was the independent co-discovery of the density matrix method, the Ginzburg–Landau theory of superconductivity among others.
