
The cost per voter has risen steadily since the first Lok Sabha polls, from less than a rupee in the first six general elections to close to Rs 50 in the last polls, with the 2014 elections seeing a near three-fold jump in the average cost incurred on each voter and becoming most expensive. The cheapest parliamentary elections were the second LS polls, held in 1957.
